Administrative Employee Categories

Administrative employees at Palestine Polytechnic University are classified into the following categories:

  • Full-time Employee: An employee appointed on a full-time basis.
  • Part-time Employee: An employee appointed on a part-time basis as specified in the employment contract.
  • Unclassified Employee: An employee appointed for an indefinite period in a classified position within the university's organizational structure, entitled to benefits under labor law.
  • Classified Employee (Tenured): A tenured full-time employee enrolled in the special benefits category under labor law and applicable university regulations.
  • Temporary Employee: An employee appointed under a special contract with a fixed salary for a specific period required by the nature of the work.
  • Daily Worker: A person appointed to work at the university in exchange for a daily wage.

Academic Employee Categories

Academic employees are classified as follows:

  • Regular Faculty Member: Appointed in one of the academic ranks (Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Lecturer, Instructor) and not a member of another university's faculty.
  • Non-Regular Faculty Member: Includes:
    • Probationary Faculty: Appointed with the intent to become regular, still in probation period.
    • Visiting Faculty: Regular at another institution, seconded to PPU for one or more semesters.
    • Temporary Faculty: Appointed for one or more semesters with full or partial teaching load.

Probation Period & Tenure

Administrative Employee Probation

  • Upon appointment, the employee is on probation for three months, extendable for another three months.
  • The university may terminate employment before the end of the probation period without stating reasons.
  • Promotion is not allowed during probation or before one year from appointment.
  • The probation period counts as actual service if the employee continues working afterward.

Academic Employee Probation

  • Faculty members are on probation for three years.
  • Tenure requires a minimum rating of 'Very Good' in the last two years with demonstrated excellence.

Previous Experience Credit

Administrative Employees

  • Previous experience relevant to the assigned work is credited.
  • One year of seniority is granted per year of experience; periods exceeding six months count as a full year.
  • Maximum credited experience: five years.

Academic Employees

  • Non-university teaching experience in the field of specialization is credited at one year per two years of experience.
  • Maximum: five years of experience.
